Space Tour: Country Cottage

Litchfield County, CT

Born and raised in New York, Instagram's Director of Fashion and Shopping Partnerships and former magazine editor Eva Chen was inspired to get a country home to make her own after an upstate weekend getaway. The transformation by the inspired designers at Hendricks Churchill is absolutely transcendent.

Chen and her family decided to purchase a late 1980s Cape Cod-style house, but you'd never guess it when looking at the interior today. Clever interior design choices made by Hendricks Churchill combined with Chen's impeccable sense of style give the space a far older feel. When asked about the aesthetic, Chen compared the color palette to the feeling of "putting on a warm, gray cashmere sweater." Soothing blues, grays and neutrals combine with functional vintage furniture chosen to hold up to her two active children.

The result of this extensive remodel: a warm, elegant home that is both livable and lacks pretension. Removed walls allowed for more expansive spaces, new built-ins created valuable multipurpose spaces. The lighting throughout is both functional and beautiful, still modern but never out of step with the vintage cottage aesthetic. Like the warm brass Stanton Floor Lamp that provides reading light in the cozy living room. Or the charming Lettie Ceiling Lamp defining the arched ceiling in the attic playroom. Both pieces are from Hudson Valley Lighting, known for their phenomenal transitional and restoration fixtures.
