Designed by Mathieu MategotRead Bio
Originally designed by Hungarian-French designer Mathieu Mategot in the 1950s, the Tropique Dining Chair captures the luxurious atmosphere of the mid-20th century French Riviera. The chair's frame is composed of ornately curved steel rods to make a distinctive statement. The fabric seat is suspended in a hammock-like manner across the frame so that the textile forms to the body's contours. Available with optional white fringe for a glamorous touch, or without fringe for a more understated look.

About Mathieu Mategot
Mathieu Matgot (1910-2001) was a self-taught Hungarian designer who settled in Paris after travelling, studying, and gaining experience in set design, window dressing, fashion, and tapestry.
He volunteered for the French army during the Second World War but was captured by the Germans and put to work in a mechanical accessories plant. It was here that he recognized the potential for perforated sheet metal to lend transparency, weightlessness and modernity to new forms. After the war, he developed Rigitulle his take on the material and his own folding, shaping, and bending technique.
