Glamtiques: Shogun Table Lamp

Mario Botta, 1986

Part of the Artemide Masterpieces collection, the stunning Shogun Table Lamp beautifully reflects the pure, geometric vision of internationally renowned architect and designer Mario Botta.

Mario Botta was born in 1943 in Mendrisio, Switzerland. While studying architecture in Venice, he took inspiration from Luis Kahn and Le Corbusier. He established a successful architecture firm in Mendrisio in 1969, starting an illustrious career in designing strong, geometric structures throughout Europe and abroad. His spiritual approach to his work is reflected in his many significant buildings, including the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco and Papa Giovanni XXIII Church in Seriate.

Botta turned his keen eye to design in the 1980s, imagining chairs and tables for Alias as well as stunning lighting objects for Artemide. His broad-ranging work has been recognized with multiple awards throughout the years, most recently the "Urbanpromo" Award at the Milan Triennale in 2015.

Named after the feudal ruler of Japan, the strikingly geometric Shogun Tavolo Table Lamp makes a bold statement. The metal stem is painted in playful, high-contrast black and white stripes evocative of many of Botta's architectural designs. The lamp emits direct and diffused light, featuring adjustable perforated steel diffusers.

Originally released in 1986, Artemide just released an updated version of this design classic equipped with the latest LED technology. Crafted of sustainable materials designed to keep energy consumption to a minimum, the Shogun Table Lamp is an environmentally friendly choice that is sure to capture everyone's attention.
