Glamtiques: Here Comes the Sun

Bertrand Balas, 1970

Inspired by the setting sun, DCW Editions relaunched this uniquely modern yet minimalist 1970s design icon for a new generation - and restored its poignant original name.

Born in Toulouse in 1935, renowned architect Bertrand Balas did an apprenticeship in Paris following his military service and started his career freelancing in 1962. From 1965 on, he developed a number of celebrated lighting designs for Dutch lighting manufacturer Raak - including his best-known lamp, vividly named Here Comes the Sun.

When Balas designed the pendants in 1970, he faced a major obstacle. The Beatles had recently released a new album bearing the title: Here Comes the Sun. To avoid any legal issues, Balas decided to rename the lamp Springfontein and transferred the distribution rights to Raak.

Decades later, Balas teamed up with DCW Editions to give Here Comes the Sun the beautifully expressive name it has always deserved. In 2015, DCW reissued the timelessly iconic Here Comes The Sun in five sizes and a variety of color versions to elevate every space.

This gorgeous sculptural light evokes the magical beauty of a sunrise. Understated in its simplicity, the modern open globe design provides warm, even light. The sphere-shaped lamp casts direct light downward and diffused, glare-free light outward in all directions. It is stunning on its own, and can also be clustered in groups of multiple sizes and colors for a bold statement.
