Alessandro Mendini

Alessandro Mendini (1931 - 2019) was an influential architect and designer who played an important role in the development of Italian Postmodern and Radical design movements. Born in Milan, Mendini graduated from the Polytechnic University of Milan with a degree in architecture in 1959. His works such as the Proust Armchair and Groninger Museum, as well as his role as director of the design magazines Domus, Casabella, and Modo, helped shape the direction of postmodern design. Mendini also worked as a designer and consultant for renowned brands including Cartier, Hermes, and Gufram and received the prestigious Compasso d'Oro award for design three times.
