Mineheart takes its name from Shakespeare’s 46th sonnet, “Mine eye and mine heart are at mortal war...” The poem describes a conflict between something beautiful and something with real value, and it’s exactly that Mineheart solves: Why not have both?
Born from extraordinary design team of Britain’s Brendan Young and Italy’s Vanessa Battaglia, London-based Mineheart was founded on the beliefs that the objects we surround ourselves with in our homes need to have not just practical function, but imbue the space with story and poetry, with art, and with love. “The idea behind Mineheart is to create a playground for creativity and discovery, where art meets design, and poetry meets industry,” Young & Battaglia said upon Mineheart’s launch. “We try to inject a sense of wonder into everyday objects and spaces around us, telling stories and creating things that are truly surprising.”
We find inspiration in everyday life, we don’t search for inspirations.
It’s easy to see these concepts come together in their work. Though many of their pieces take advantage of top-of-the-line LED technology, making them ideal choices to illuminate your home, it’s impossible to miss that they also stand as odes to history and classic art. Drawing inspiration from cultural landmarks like Napoleon and Michelangelo to 20th century icons like Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe, Mineheart’s pieces evoke the stories of our past in new and exciting ways.
Young & Battaglia first hit the design scene in 2003 with their popular interior design firm Studiomold, and by 2010 decided to branch out as designers themselves with Mineheart. Cultural sponges, they describe a kaleidoscopic design inspiration that eclectically pulls from every from the Renaissance to the Golden Age of Comic Books.
Designing and manufacturing their pieces in the United Kingdom gives Mineheart complete control over the production and quality of their custom projects, giving them greater flexibility in creating bespoke works for their clients. It also allows them to collaborate with a wealth of designers from Europe and beyond, all of whom share Young & Battaglia’s passion for somewhat gothic contemporary design, and all of whom work to make the ordinary things we surround ourselves with extraordinary.
