About Shin Azumi
Born in Kobe, Japan in 1965, Shin Azumi enjoyed art in his childhood and aspired to become a cartoonist or inventor. His creative pursuits led him to study at Kyoto City University of Arts, where he was inspired by the works of Tadao Ando and Toyo Ito, and later to pursue a master's degree in Industrial Design at the Royal College of Art in London. Upon graduation, Azumi remained in London for the next 25 years, where he established Azumi Studio in 1995 and A Studio in 2005.
Azumi's works have received numerous international awards, including the Blueprint 100% Design Award in 2003, the Jerwood Applied Arts Prize in 2004, and the Design Guild Mark awarded by the Furniture Makers' Company in 2016. His designs exist at the intersection of physical and psychological functionality by challenging the way users think about objects.
