Welcome to the Merchandise Mart, a renowned commercial building located in the heart of downtown Chicago. With its Art Deco architecture and a massive 4 million square feet of floor space, it was once the largest building in the world when it first opened in 1930. The objective of this project was to upgrade the space with innovative PureEdge architectural lighting while preserving the building's original charm. You can witness this design approach in the hallway, where the Cirrus Suspension System is skillfully arranged to create a stunning row of diamonds along the ceiling.

TruQuad Lighting System

The lighting design at The Merchandise Mart seamlessly blends modern and traditional elements to create a stunning aesthetic. PureEdge's Truline TrueQuad architectural lighting features rectangular fixtures that frame the ceilings of the elevator lobbies, adding a contemporary touch to the space. The hallways are illuminated by recessed downlights and Truline fixtures that provide floor-to-ceiling lighting in an elegant and seamless manner. In addition, Truline fixtures are used in a seamless L shape that spans from floor to ceiling, adding a sophisticated touch to the space.

The use of linear suspensions to frame different areas of The Merchandise Mart is another highlight of the lighting design. They are used over the tables in the cafeteria, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that is perfect for dining. Additionally, they are featured over the escalator, using one on either side of the sloped ceiling to create an archway that adds a touch of sophistication to the space. Overall, the lighting design featuring PureEdge architectural lighting at The Merchandise Mart is a true masterpiece, creating a stunning visual experience that is sure to impress visitors and tenants alike.
