While there are many great American lighting brands that deserve recognition, only a relative few design and make their lighting in the US. Here are a few of our favorite brands keeping the great tradition of American manufacturing alive.

Scraplights is the company’s flagship collection of lighting, made from upcycled corrugated cardboard. From public works of art and architectural installations to residential and commercial lighting, Graypants’ unique and resourceful designs capture both the eye and the imagination.

George Nelson Bubble Lamps by Modernica

Classics of the mid-century modern design movement, George Nelson’s Bubble Lamps were originally created for the Howard Miller Clock Company in 1947. The lamps were discontinued in 1979 as changing trends turned the tide of design in new directions. LA-based Modernica revived the classic collection in the late ‘90s as part of the company’s efforts to preserve the legacy of the North American Modernism movement. Today’s renewed interest in the mid-century aesthetic has created an overwhelming demand for George Nelson Bubble Lamps once again. These iconic lamps are fittingly created in Modernica’s factory in Los Angeles, the Modernist movement’s city of origin.

Cerno

Making sustainability sexy since 2009, this Southern California manufacturer merges high design and energy saving LED technology into sleek, modern fixtures. Responsibly-sourced materials like solid wood, aluminum, and linen make up the contemporary and often multi-purpose lighting. From geometric pendants to unique desk and floor lamps, Cerno confidently revives the mid-century aesthetic for contemporary American homes.

Revelite

From the Californian makers of Cerno comes Revelite, a revolution in LED art lighting that has changed the way we light works of art. These innovative, made-to-order lights have nearly perfect color rendering to show artwork the way the artist originally intended it to be seen. Because LEDs do not emit any UV light, paintings are preserved and don’t fade over time from exposure to the light. Best of all, these perfectly aligned fixtures are designed to evenly illuminate the entire length and height of the canvas. No dark spots or shadows, just beautiful, vibrant art.

Niche Modern

What began as a project to create modern display lighting for a New York City storefront has since become an alluring collection of architectural-quality, hand blown pendant lights and multi-light suspensions. In a factory in upstate New York, the artisans at Niche Modern use time-honored glassmaking techniques to craft uniquely modern pendant lighting, melding innovation with tradition to create works of art. Paired with a variety of vintage bulb designs, Niche Modern pendants take modern design to a new dimension.

Robert Abbey

With a passion for design that has fueled the company since its founding in 1946, Robert Abbey exudes timeless sophistication with modern appeal. Originally based in Brooklyn, Robert Abbey moved to its current, larger home in North Carolina after a surge in popularity and demand in the 1980s. With most of its products made entirely in the USA, Robert Abbey offers a vibrant, elegant collection of lighting that truly offers something for everyone.

Siemon & Salazar

Murano craftsmanship – made in California. Since 1999, Siemon & Salazar have designed and crafted hand blown glass pieces in their Southern California workshop. Following a two-year Murano glassmaking apprenticeship, Caleb Siemon founded his own studio and brought Carmen Salazar and other friends on board to help. The early years were characterized by a stream of visiting artists that influenced the studio’s design climate and identity. While today’s studio is more streamlined, they still believe that “glass blowing is a team sport.”
