The Tube Alarm Clock was designed with it's dial as an extrusion ring. Extrusion molding is a design technique that involves forcing materials through a mold, the extrusion profile is what gives the material its shape. Piet Hein devised a ring like that for the design of the clock face. It is the idea of keeping things normal and down-to-earth, but still extraordinary. The alarm and snooze function are situated in the back of the Tube to not disrupt the design. Includes LR44 battery.

Piet Hein Eek is one of the most prominent Dutch designers of his generation. After graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 1990 he became famous for creating scrap wood furniture which emphasizes production techniques and celebrates the beauty of imperfection.
He has undertaken projects in sustainability in developing countries, as well as furniture design and production projects in his native the Netherlands.
