Castle Wall Sconce

SPEC #: RNH1301130

Designed by Jason MillerRead Bio

While the Castle Wall Sconce vaguely resembles the tower of a castle wall, it was actually inspired by the castle-shaped chess piece of the rook, which can only be moved vertically or horizontally. The sconce's structure reflects the chess piece's orthogonal movements with a tubular glass diffuser emerging vertically from the metal frame. The glass softly diffuses light from the integrated LED light source to provide ambient illumination.

Jason Miller is a Brooklyn-based designer and the founder of Roll & Hill. He is known for his elegant and historically rich work, which often takes inspiration from nature and the decorative arts. Miller's early work was more conceptual, including duct-taped chairs and cracked vases. However, he soon realized that he preferred making things to documenting them. He received an MFA in painting and spent time in both the art and advertising worlds, but ultimately decided to pursue a career in design. Miller's work has been featured in publications such as Architectural Digest, Elle Dcor, and The New York Times. He has also won numerous awards, including the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award for Product Design.
