Sleak and modern. Great light output (touch sensitive button on the back of the base arm of lamp adjusts light to 3 different levels). Bought these to use as side table lamps. The base of this lamp is big - so suggest you have a decent amount of surface space in order to use it in this capacity. The base is also heavy - which is good in that you won't worry about it tipping when adjusting it to any of the angles the hinges allow - which are many. Main complaints are design asthetics - design should have been more thoughtful with plug connection placement. The cord connects onto the base of the lamp arm - not the base itself (which doesn't swivel) and thus depending on which direction the lamp is placed for use can mean the cord has to wrap around the base and be exposed in order for it to reach the wall plug. This wouldn't be such a big deal if the cord was the same color as the base of the lamp - but it isn't (we chose the white lamp but the plug & cord are black). Also the plug itself is "bulky" due to the necessary dimmer transformer it needs, so it crowds the wall outlet space and makes it difficult to use certain other types of plugs on the same outlet.
