The Praying Mantis Floor Lamp
SPEC #: RPL1302411
ID: RI-PRA-MAN-VIN-OAK
The Praying Mantis Floor Lamp is an American version of the classic mid-century French design by Francois Rispal. Named after La Mante Religieuse, or the Praying Mantis, this piece features beautifully arched legs with a pleated white lamp shade made from similar, but updated, materials that could be found in the 1950s. The structure is made from wood and is crafted by hand. The floor lamp can be used for ambient lighting in office or living spaces.

Specification Sheet / Technical Files

Little is known about the founder of Rispal. The son of wine merchants, he was born in Paris in 1901. In 1924, he founded his company in the 11th arrondissement of the capital, at 172 rue de Charonne. Its activity ceased in 1982. The workshop and the showroom were then destroyed in order to build a real estate office. During this demolition, all plans, manufacturing documents and other tools disappeared, and with it, all the craftmanship of Rispal. However, in the early 1950s, a particularly avant-garde collection, "Formes Nouvelles", was launched. If there is one model that represents the avant-gardism of Rispal alone, it is undoubtedly the Praying Mantis.
