Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt

Born in Denmark, Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt's creative career began in Japan where she first studied ceramics. After returning to Copenhagen, Fonnesberg Schmidt continued her studies at the Royal Danish Academy where she honed her skills. Fonnesberg Schmidt worked for years as a studio potter, and her work has been featured in numerous galleries and museums including the Trapholt Museum for Modern Art and Design.

However, the medium of ceramics eventually proved limiting to Fonnesberg Schmidt, so she began experimenting with other materials. Plexiglass in particular proved to be a material that allowed her to expand her sculptural sensibilities while exploring the interplay of shape, color, and light.
