Marcel Gascoin

French designer and architect Marcel Gascoin (1908 - 1986) was a leading modernist designer of the post-war period. Gascoin worked as an architect and interior designer for the French Ministry of Reconstruction and Urbanism where he designed both homes and furniture to replace the damages from the war. Drawing upon his training as a cabinetmaker, his furniture and modular cabinet designs often showcased his love of wood as a material. Gascoin's balance of functionality and aesthetics is a hallmark of modern design and was inspired in part by his affiliation with the UAM (French Union of Modern Artists), a group which included influential designers such as Charlotte Perriand and Le Corbusier.
