Terence Conran

Sir Terence Conran (1931 - 2020) was an influential British designer, writer, and retailer. Conran studied at the Central School of Art and Design with a focus in textiles before beginning a career as an independent designer. In 1964, Conran opened his first shop in London, Habitat, which offered furniture and housewares in a modern style. Habitat grew into a large chain, one of the first to offer such designs to a wide audience. In addition to Conran's own designs, Habitat also showcased products sourced from across Europe.

In addition to his career as a retailer, Conran was also on the leading edge of the design profession in Britain as a designer specializing in interiors, product, and graphic design. He has founded numerous restaurants and was also a key figure in establishing the Design Museum in London.
