Steven Haulenbeek

Steven Haulenbeek is an American artist and designer based in Chicago. He earned a bachelor's degree in drawing and sculpture at Hope College in Holland, Michigan, before beginning a graduate program in design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2010, Haulenbeek started his independent design practice with an emphasis on unique materials and processes to create objects for the home. One of his most famous methods is ice-cast bronze, which involves pouring wax molds for bronze casting directly in Chicago's winter ice. Haulenbeek's innovation has been recognized nationally and across the world, including being named one of America's most exciting designers by the New York Times in 2015.
