Gabriel Tan

Gabriel Tan (b. 1982) began his career path as a designer when he stumbled upon some design books while studying to be a naval officer in the Singapore Navy. Tan fell in love with design almost instantly, and he eventually enrolled at the National University of Singapore to study Industrial Design. He worked as a designer for several years before founding his own studio in 2016 based in Singapore and Portugal.

Tan draws upon both Asian and European influences in his designs, as well as a methodical approach and meticulous attention to detail that he attributes to his naval background. His designs are based around bringing comfort, fostering social interactions, and raising awareness for sustainability. After designing the Rumee Portable Table Lamp for Louis Poulsen, Tan was named Louis Poulsen's 2025 Designer of the Year.
