Tommaso Cimini

Tommaso Cimini (19471997) was an influential Italian lighting designer and entrepreneur, best known as the creator of the Daphine lamp and the founder of Lumina. Early in his career he worked as a technician at Artemide, where he developed a keen sensibility for simplicity and mechanical clarity. In 1975, he introduced a prototype of the Daphine - a lamp with articulated arms, an exposed transformer, and a minimalist diffuser - embodying his maxim lots of light, not much lamp. In 1980 he founded Lumina in Sedriano, working with designers such as Walter Monici, Riccardo Blumer, and Yaacov Kaufman to expand a catalog of elegant, technically refined luminaires. His work continues to be celebrated for its purity of form and integration of function.
