Glamtiques: Multi-Lite Series

Louis Weisdorf, 1972

Rereleased by Gubi in 2016, the dynamic and adaptable Multi-Lite Pendant is an enduring masterpiece of modern lighting.

Louis Weisdorf (1932-2021) was a prominent, multi-faceted Danish industrial designer and architect. After graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1954, he started his career in lighting design in 1963.

After designing the iconic Konkylie lamps in 1964, Weisdorf opened a design studio in Copenhagen in 1967. He designed lighting and furniture for a number of prominent brands, including Lyfa, Georg Jensen and Le Klint. He also taught design at the Royal Danish School of Fine Arts. Weisdorf received numerous awards for his work, including the iF Design Award for his Turbo Pendant in 1967. Today, his creations are considered classics of Danish design.

Introduced in 1972, the Multi-Lite Pendant has a uniquely adjustable design which allows it to adapt to different spaces and their specific lighting needs. The spherical shade consists of two identical metal shells that direct the light upwards, downwards or asymmetrically according to their arrangement. As such, this single lamp can cast light that is either ambient and soft, or focused and targeted.

With the rerelease of the Multi-Lite Pendant in 2016 came the introduction of previously unavailable floor and table lamp models, a smaller pendant and a portable lamp. Available in a variety of colors with bases in black brass, brass or chrome, the distinctive and functional Multi-Lite is a timelessly elegant addition to every space.
