Chicago, IL
by Amanda Veller
Nestled near Navy Pier, this sleek Chicago condo reflects the lifestyle of its resident a surgeon who values clarity, calm, and functionality. She came into the project with a strong personal vision and opted not to hire an interior designer. Instead, she partnered directly with Lightology lighting consultant Amanda Veller, who helped bring her ideas to life through a thoughtful and collaborative approach.
She envisioned a simple, sophisticated design with clean lines and a glare-free layout that could adapt to her routine, Amanda shared. Without a design team, she and the client refined the lighting through a series of collaborative calls, blending minimalist taste with practical function.
To maintain visual openness, PureEdge Lighting's TruLine just 5/8" thick and designed to recess into drywall without modifying studswas installed above the kitchen island, vanishing seamlessly into the ceiling. Luca 24V Trimless Downlights were layered throughout the space, delivering bright, energizing light in the morning and shifting to a warm, golden hue by sunset.
With minimal architectural detailing, we used light to enhance what was therecolumns, drop ceilings, and vertical elementscreating clean, linear paths that added depth and rhythm, Amanda explained.
As day turns to night, Pure Smart RGBTW technology takes center stage. Color-changing wall accents and tunable ceiling illumination set the tone for entertaining or unwinding. In the hallway, a vertical run of TruLine transforms a structural column into a sculptural moment, emphasizing intention over ornamentation. The bedroom continues the layered approach, where low-glare sconces and a discreet line of TruLine near the ceiling create a calm, focused atmosphere.
