Inspired by his search for attractive, functional storage for his huge vinyl collection, furniture designer and current creative director Blake Tovin founded Symbol in Nyack, New York in 2012. Initially, the company focused on designing exceptional storage and display pieces, including record stands, media consoles and cabinets.

Symbol has since expanded to offer other luxe furnishings that center around music and the listening experience. After years of success, it was time to create a space where design enthusiasts, potential customers and interior designers could experience Symbol first-hand - in the historic heart of New York City's art, culture and music scene.

Spanning 3,000 square feet, Symbol's new showroom has the vintage feel of a 1970s New York City artist's loft. Exposed brick, factory windows and high ceilings provide the backdrop for Symbol's distinctive furniture collections.

The space is organized into a series of vignettes, each including comfortable seating, coffee tables and speakers. These invite people to sit, relax and listen to some music, getting a feel for the Symbol lifestyle. Designed for work during the daytime, the showroom effortlessly hosts small events and gatherings in the evening.

Unsurprisingly, some of the last century's most celebrated lamps grace the Symbol Loft. A white PH 5 Pendant from Louis Poulsen echoes the white circular meeting table below. Striking in black, the AJ Floor Lamp provides focused light and style. A mid-century icon from Flos, the minimalist Luminator Floor Lamp casts gorgeous indirect light.

From the streamlined track lighting on the ceiling to the glowing open cabinets and purposeful tabletop lighting, the Symbol Loft shows how expertly layered lighting can transform a space from day to night.
