The Guild Hotel

San Diego, California - Lighting Design by Natalie Smith

Opened in June 2019, this gorgeous The Guild Hotel occupies a century-old landmark in the heart of San Diego. This beautiful renovation celebrates the past, maintaining significant details such as high ceilings, original tilework, elegant archways and exposed brick - with brilliant lighting to define each space.

Once a historic Army-Navy YMCA building constructed in 1924, the conversion of this venerable structure highlights its character and charm while transforming it into an exclusive 162-room hotel, lounge and restaurant in downtown San Diego. Owner Oram Hotels spent three years painstakingly restoring the building's Italian Renaissance-inspired facade and many of the original elements throughout the property.

The talented Sormeh Rienne is responsible for the stunning design transformation at The Guild Hotel, effectively elevating original moments with luxe, modern updates to create this truly inspired and elegant destination. The interior pays homage to the rich history of this space while incorporating distinctive lighting that catches the eye - like the Bola Disc Pendants that hang above the modern Guild Bar, or the barely-there Link Horizontal Pendant floating above the conference room table. With rich textures, jewel tones and oh-so-chic style found in every moment, it's no surprise that the San Diego Architectural Foundation gave The Guild Hotel the Orchid Award for historic preservation.
