About Sebastian Hepting
Sebastian Hepting is a German designer, based in Munich, with a focus on lighting design. Hepting's career began as an assistant to renowned designer Vladimir Kagan, where he aided in the production of Kagan's furniture designs in New York and Italy. In 2004, he began a decades-long collaboration with Munich-based studio Ingo Maurer GmbH.
Hepting's motivation is the creation of visual poetry with the innovative use of materials and technology, and he believes the immateriality of light and shadow make them magical to work with. New technologies in lighting are often the inspiration for his work, but they are often hidden in the background of the design to highlight their unique effects. Hepting's combination of new ideas and traditional production methods results in his distinctive style that breathes life into familiar forms.
