Direct lighting sends most of its light downward toward people, surfaces, or tasks, creating brighter, higher-contrast illumination that works well for kitchens, reading, and task areas but can sometimes feel harsh or produce glare. Indirect lighting sends most of its light upward or onto walls and ceilings first, allowing it to reflect back into the space for a softer, more diffuse, and visually comfortable effect that is popular in modern residential and hospitality interiors. Many contemporary fixtures combine both approaches, using direct light for function and indirect light for ambient glow and reduced glare.

These lights look great and they're very bright. The construction quality is decent. But the ballast used to drive the LEDs is terrible: connected to a standard light switch, they takes 1.5-2 seconds to light up after being switched on, and connected to a dimming switch, they hum loudly. Very disappointing, I wouldn't recommend them.
