About Guiseppe Maurizio Scutella
Born in 1962 in Alcamo (Trapani). The following year moved with his family to Lumezzane (Brescia), a busy industrial pole in Lombardy where he completed his school education and obtained an industrial expert diploma for mechanics in 1981. For 12 years acted as senior Project tech designer of die-cast and plastic moulds, and cooperated with high tech companies designing equipment and moulds for (Kawasaki, Ducati Bonfiglioli, Sylber, Metalwork, Gaggia, Mercedes, Fini, Prisma, Tronconi, Artemide). At the same time started cooperating as a designer with high-prestige local companies. Along with his freelance designer activity, particularly in the lighting technology sector he worked as Senior Designer for Marci&Co (design division of Elettroplastica S.p.A.), a well-established entity in the home appliances and household items sector. Also cooperates with Mepra SpA and Pandora Design as a designer of high tech stainless steel and plastic household items, as well as with United Pets. His cooperation with ARTEMIDE S.p.A. started in 2008. Designed Pirce suspension/wall/overhead (new for 2012) (Cover New Product 2008), winner of a Good_design award 2008, a Red Dot Award 2009 (IFF Design Award 2010), Alcatraz, floor lamp, New Product 2011. His creative thinking can be summarized as follows: “A technological lighting appliance has a soul, suggests a story, is often a poem without written verses. Light has a fragrance, is an enrapturing luminous sound, is beautifully alive, dynamic, as well as intimate and gentle; respecting its nature, embracing its languages made of lights and shades, trying to provide multiple keys for interpretation wherever I can in the projects I address, is my own way to approach its magic nature.”
