The PH Artichoke Pendant is an original midcentury icon. Created in 1958 by Danish design genius Poul Hennigsen, the PH Artichoke is a glare-free luminaire featuring laser-cut metal leaves, which give it the sharp smooth lines so indicative of modern design. The leaves shield the light source and redirect and reflect the light onto the underlying leaves creating a stunningly unique illumination. Louis Poulsen Lighting, Inc., was founded in 1985. The foundation for today's innovative lighting solutions was firmly laid in the 1920's when the famous Danish architect, Poul Henningsen, working together with Louis Poulsen, crafted a brilliant mix of technology and design that advanced light delivery systems to their rightful place among architectural elements. Mr. Henningsen's revolutionary philosophy and long affiliation with Louis Poulsen was just the beginning of what has become a continuing line of collaboration with other visionary architects and designers. Year after year this combination of ingenuity, experience and innovation results in the award winning designs that keep Louis Poulsen at the forefront of the lighting industry.
See more from Louis PoulsenBorn in Copenhagen to famous actress Agness Henningsen, Poul Henningsen would soon become a pioneer in the world of design. He never graduated as an architect, but he completed his schooling at a technical school in Frederikberg, Denmark (1911-14), later attendeding a technical college in Copenhagen from 1914 to 1917.
For a short time, Henningsen was the lead architect at the Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen but was forced to flee during the German occupation. He later became one of the driving creative forces in the artist colonies around Sweden. While Henningsen was an avid writer, journalist, author and architect, his main focus was lighting. His memorable collaboration with Louis Poulsen began in 1925 and lasted until his death in 1967. The way Henningsen interpreted light structures, shadow, glare, color reproduction and how it correlates to our need for light is still practiced at Louis Poulsen today. His iconic designs and technical approach to design has truly changed the world of lighting forever.

Thank you
Beautiful with the lights turned off, stunning when illuminated. The brushed metal reflects and spreads the light softly, bathing the whole room in an ethereal glow. It's so soothing.
"Lotus Flower"
Gorgeous. Though its really name the Artichoke Suspension, we call it our "Lotus Flower Lamp". My husband and I saw a few chandeliers very similar to this in our hotel in Bali (maybe even the same ones) and I immediately fell in love with the look. There is something so beautiful about the mixture of clean Asian lines and European industrial frill.
Even more beautiful in person
When I ordered this, I thought I'd be getting a really nice, modern piece that would look good in our living room and blend well with the decor. I was SO wrong. It doesn't look nice-it looks FANTASTIC!! The first time I turned it on I was totally blown away. These photos simply don't show how beautiful this pendant really is.
